Guide
Choosing
the style of your conservatory can often
be dictated by the style of your property.
Some conservatories obviously lend themselves
to particular property styles such as Victorian,
Edwardian and Traditional (also known as
lean-to). These styles can complement original
Victorian and Edwardian architecture, or
more modern architecture completed in this
style.
However,
choosing a style goes beyond this. You need
to look at your property in terms of size,
the pitch of your eaves, locations of ground
and first floor windows, access and overall
appearance. Below we run through the practical
and technical advantages of each style to
help you in your search for a quality DIY
conservatory.
Victorian
An
elegant choice with its distinctive shape
the Victorian design works in various sizes
of base plan. The front aspect of the conservatory
is constant with panels fanning out from
the main structure. Bigger conservatories
in this range have larger panels rather
than more panels. The angled front panels
provide more space around the conservatory
so make it ideal for a limited space situation.
The ridge projects away from the property
and the height may vary depending on the
size you require so ensure you have checked
the clearance required from any external
architectural features. This is true for
all of our self build conservatory range.
Edwardian
The
Edwardian conservatory design lends itself
to many house styles. It has simplicity
and space combined with elegance. Unlike
the Victorian, the baseplan is either square
or rectangular. This gives the maximum usable
space and french doors can be added on either
side or to the front aspect. The ridge projects
away from the property and the height may
vary depending on the size you require so
ensure that you have considered the ridge
height and the impact it will have on any
surrounding architectural features.
Traditional
or Lean-to
The simplest
of the conservatory designs, but still an
attractive and elegant addition to your
property, the traditional or lean-to design
owes much to the styling of glass houses
and sun rooms of the past. Ideal for a wider
property, the traditional is a great choice
for a multi use space. The roof slopes away
from your property and will run along a
straight line.
P-Shape
If
you have a large space available for your
conservatory consider the benefits of the
P-Shape. It is a classic blend of traditional
and victorian styles and gives width and
projection in one easy to install package.
The P-Shape provides you with a choice of
usage options and is great for multi use
spaces and families.
Gullwing
or Gull Wing
The
Gullwing Conservatory is an ideal choice
if you are looking for the ornate lines
of an Victorian conservatory over a wider
area. The roof fans out from the wall plate which runs along the line of
your property for strength and an attractive
appearance.
Double
Hipped Roofs We
have the option with our conservatories
of a double hipped roof. This gives you
the freedom to add a conservatory to unusual
buildings or bungalows as the roof slopes
on all four edges away from central ridge requiring the minimum of clear
space on your property. This is ideal for
properties with low pitched roofs or architectural
features which may be affected by a standard
roof.
